Checking the Root Growth of New Sod

If you have installed new sod, you are most likely watering it more than once a day. If the soil underneath the sod was properly prepared, (when moist) it will easily shift under pressure. It is very important to avoid activity on new sod, as it could create divots and ruts which may need repair in the future. Roots will typically develop in two or three weeks.

Checking the root growth of new sod is a very easy process. Gently pull up an area of sod with your hand - the more resistance you feel, the more roots have taken to the soil.
When you pull on the sod, and there is very little or no give, then it is safe to decrease the watering frequencies. Pending on you site's situation, watering times may vary. Contact one of our project managers for a free consultation.
